Escorted to the Vehicle

If you use a manual wheelchair, the driver will push it from the door at your pick-up location to the vehicle, e.g. bus, accessible minivan or sedan taxi. If you are ambulatory, the driver will walk beside you and provide light guidance. If you require additional assistance, please ensure that you travel with an escort.

Getting on the Vehicle

If the vehicle picking you up is either a bus or accessible minivan, a ramp will be extended to accommodate you. On the bus, you may remain seated on your wheelchair or scooter or request that you transfer to a seat. If you use a scooter and the vehicle sent for you is an accessible minivan, you must transfer to a seat for safety reasons.

Securing you on the Vehicle

If you are using one of the seats on the vehicle, for safety reasons, you are expected to use the attached seatbelt. If you use a wheelchair or scooter and remain seated on the device, you will be secured with a belt. Any escort you are travelling with will also be expected to wear a seatbelt.

Your mobility device must be secured at all times using securement belts.

If the driver is unable to secure your device safely, they will not be able to take you on their vehicle.

Infants/Young Children Travelling on a Vehicle

If you travel with young children or infants please take note of the following:

Buses are not equipped with car seats, booster seats or tethers. Children should be removed from the stroller and secured in a single seating position. If for some reason your child is unable to sit in a single seating position, they should be placed securely on your lap. Children placed on your lap will never be secured within the same seat belt assembly used to secure you. If you cannot hold your child and you wish for them to remain in the stroller, the stroller must be secured in the same way that a mobility device would be.

If your stroller is of a light weight aluminium variety or determined to be in poor condition the driver can refuse to secure it for safety reasons. Children can only be transported in strollers equipped with a five point harness which is properly secured on the child

Accessible minivans are not equipped with car seats, booster seats or tethers. If you cannot hold your child, you can bring along a booster seat, but you will be required to secure your own child. If you can not do this yourself, please travel with an escort

Sedan taxi cabs are not equipped with car seats, booster seats but do have tethers. If you cannot hold your child, you can bring along a booster seat or child car seat, but you will be required to secure your own child. If you can not do this yourself, please travel with an escort

Guide and Service Animals

When travelling with your guide or service animal, please ensure that you make our staff aware that the animal will be accompanying you so that we can allow for adequate space in the vehicle.
