Tip
If you require an accessible route or if you plan to bring your bicycle, it is important to set your trip options. If you don’t set your trip options, Trip Planner could potentially design a trip that includes an inaccessible bus route or a bus route that does not have buses equipped with bike racks.
The TTC provides accessible service on many routes. Not all stops or stations are accessible.
The TTC provides bike racks on buses. Bike racks are available on most vehicles for select routes.
Tip
The TTC is an integrated transit system with hundreds of routes. Trip Planner is programmed to take advantage of all of these options when designing trips for you.
Selecting trips that use Subway/RT, Bus and Streetcar will improve your trip options.
Tip
Many Toronto street addresses are designated “west” and “east”, depending on which side of Yonge Street they are on.
The Trip Planner will give you the option to choose between 100 Queen St. West and 100 Queen St. East.
Tip
When you try to determine the total amount of time your trip will take, remember that the Trip Planner does not take into consideration the time it will take to walk to your first TTC stop and from your last TTC stop to your final destination.
The Trip Planner will give you the number of metres that you must walk at the beginning and end of your journey.
The average walking speed of an adult is 1.3 metres per second. To get an estimated walking time, follow this formula:
1. DIVIDE the walking distance by 1.3
2. DIVIDE that number by 60 to get the number of minutes it will take an average adult to walk the distance.
Here’s an example:
1. Total walking distance of 287 metres divided by 1.3 seconds = Approximately 221 seconds
2. 221 seconds divided by 60 = Approximate walking time of 3-4 minutes for an average adult
If the Trip Planner suggests that you have to walk 450 metres to get to your first stop, it may take an average adult about 5-10 minutes to walk that distance.
Tip
When you are working with the Trip Planner maps, remember that if you click on any of the map pins, you can view a close-up of that area.
This is especially helpful at transfer points if you need to walk a short distance to start the next part of your trip. While most transfer points are extremely close together, you do not want to risk getting lost as it could mean missing your connection.
