The annual TTC Subway Musicians' Programme began in August 1980 with about 50 performers auditioning that year. Popular with riders and artists, the programme has grown steadily and now attracts more than 160 musicians to our yearly auditions.

Prior to the Subway Musicians' Programme, performers were not allowed in the subway because such activity contravened TTC by-laws.
