How Do I Apply for a Subway Musician Audition?
Applying for a TTC Subway Musician Audition is easy and there is no cost to audition!
Step One
Get the 2011-2012 Subway Musicians’ Application For Audition package.
- The application period starts Friday, May 20, 2011.
- Applications will not be accepted before May 20, 2011.
The 2011-2012 Subway Musicians’ Application for Audition package will be available starting on Friday, May 20 for pick-up Monday to Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at TTC Head Office, 1900 Yonge Street, (at Davisville Station) Toronto, Ontario, at the Main Floor Security Desk.

Step Two
Read and understand the 2011-2012 Subway Musicians’ Application for Audition package.
The package includes:
- Single Performance Application,
- Duo Performance Application,
- TTC Rules and Regulations Regarding Subway Musician Auditions and Selection Process
- Judges Score Sheet - Sample and,
- TTC Subway Musicians Licence Agreement - Sample
Step Three
Applicants can apply for only one audition either as a Single Act or with a partner as a Duo Act;
- Read and Sign the appropriate Performance Application form.
- Read and Sign TTC Rules and Regulations Regarding Subway Musician Auditions and Selection Process;

If you are using our online TTC Subway Musicians Audition application form, please fill out all the sections and print. The Rules and Regulations will automatically print out along with the completed application form. Both documents must be signed.
- Note you will not be able to save and submit the online form electronically.
Step Four
The deadline is the first 175 Single or Duo Acts to apply or all applicants who have applied by June 24, 2011 (whichever come first).
You can submit your completed Subway Musicians’ Application package Monday to Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Main Floor Security Desk or mail in to the following address:

Musicians will then be invited to audition at the CNE, on August 19, 20 or 21, 2011.
When am I informed of my audition date?
All Applicants that have filed an application to audition before the deadline will be advised of their Audition date and time by mail, during the week of August 8, 2011.
What happens at the Auditions?
All auditions take place at the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE), Exhibition Place, Toronto, Ontario.
The TTC Audition site is located just outside the North-West corner of the Food Building and is easily accessible from either the Bathurst streetcar loop or the Dufferin Gates.
Step One
Upon arrival at the CNE on your scheduled day of the audition, applicants will:
- Be required to Sign-in at the TTC Audition Registration Desk;
- Be required to sign CNE and TTC waivers;
- Be directed to the Warm-up Tent to:
- tune instrument and,
- warm-up before audition; - Be explained the audition rules;
- Be directed to stage area to set-up for your audition;
Step Two
Applicants will be required to pass the performance requirements of the Audition Committee, which will include:
- Musical Talent;
- Entertainment Value and,
- Stage Presence
Step Three
Applicants must perform a sample of a minimum of three (3) songs and will be allowed a total time of seven (7) minutes to perform.
When am I informed of my audition results?
All Applicants who have auditioned will be advised by mail, during the week of September 12, 2011 of their Audition scores and whether or not they qualify for a licence.
The top 74 scoring acts will then be licenced to play in the TTC subway system from October 8, 2011 to October 7, 2012.
What is required of musicians if they are selected to be licenced ?
- Must attend an information session to be scheduled for early October;
- Must pay a licence fee of $150.00 per musician for the licence period of October 8, 2011 to October 7, 2012. (This fee partially covers TTC audition expenses);
- Must sign the Musician Licence Agreement which must be picked up within 5 working days as of October 7, 2011.
In the event that a Licenced performer withdraws from the programme the next highest scoring musician will be offered the resulting vacancy.
