Holey, Moley ... They're Done!

Breakthrough of TBM Moley.

(Photo above - Construction Crew Celebrates Moley's Breakthrough).

Late in the morning on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 tunnel boring machine Moley arrived at the extraction shaft located on the east side of W.R. Allen Road, just north of Downsview Station. On this drive Moley completed 1.2 kilometres of tunnel and placed 799 rings. Moley has now completed its job by finishing the twin tunnel adjacent to Holey's tunnel, which was completed last December 2012. This drive marks the end of tunnel boring for the southern tunnels! Overall, 75% of tunnelling is now completed for the Project!

Watch how a subway tunnel is constructed and see the breakthrough of Holey.

On a chilly morning on Wednesday, March 13, 2013, dignitaries, guests and the media braved the weather at our Highway 407 Station construction site to celebrate the beginning of the next stage of tunnel construction.

Yorkie and Torkie hit second milestone! In mid-March and early April tunnel boring machines Yorkie and Torkie began tunnelling from the Highway 407 station site, and are boring the twin tunnels southbound toward the Black Creek Pioneer Village Station (formerly known as Steeles West Station). Yorkie and Torkie just cleared the CN Rail tracks and continue to make good progress. We expect that both machines will arrive at the extraction shaft located on the north side of Steeles Avenue West across from Northwest Gate in June.
