Single Lane Restrictions Eastbound on Steeles Avenue West
March 2, 2012
Starting the week of Monday March 5th, there will be single lane restrictions eastbound on Steeles Avenue West at Northwest Gate for utility relocation work. These lane restrictions are expected to last for approximately two weeks. While driving through this construction zone, please use extra care and reduced speeds. Traffic movements will be reduced to ensure public safety and to allow for construction vehicles to access both the north and south construction entrances of the Steeles West subway station.
Work Hours:
The City of Toronto normal working hours are 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. However, the City of Toronto has approved a noise by-law amendment for major transit projects which allows contractors to perform overnight and weekend work for the duration of the project, when required, to minimize impact on the local community.
- Steeles West Station construction work is permitted from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., 7 days per week.
- Tunnel construction using Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs), and related activities including excavation is permitted 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, for safety and efficiency purposes.
Pedestrians:
There will be no pedestrian access from Northwest Gate to Steeles Avenue West due to the construction site. Pedestrians are required to use designated crosswalks at Founders Road to cross Steeles Avenue West. All bus stops located at Northwest Gate have been relocated to Founders Road.
As construction continues at the Steeles West Station Site, construction related notices will be issued.
