Under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act, the TTC is requesting a “Declaration Order”, due to the positive impact of the Project. On December 1, 2003, TTC submitted the Declaration Order Request and Background Report to the Ontario Minister of the Environment. The Background Report includes a description of the project and its expected environmental impacts, as well as TTC’s commitments to mitigate (reduce) these impacts and to conduct ongoing public consultation.

Public Open House, Royal Bank Plaza, Toronto
On June 24, 2003 the TTC held a public open house to introduce the TTC Union Subway Station Second Platform and Concourse Improvements Project. The public were provided the opportunity to review the options that were considered for the addition of a second platform and reconfiguration of the concourse area. Almost 1,000 people attended, viewed the information panels and talked with TTC project staff.
Your comments will assist our project team in the planning and design of the Union Subway Station Second Platform and Concourse Improvements Project.
Here's what you had to say:
- “The best way to deal with overcrowding is to add a second subway platform and to expand the concourse area to include a single TTC fare-paid area and pedestrian by-pass routes.”
- “The project should proceed as quickly as possible and construction impacts should be kept to a minimum.”
- “Co-ordination is needed between TTC, GO Transit & VIA Rail services and facilities.”
- “Enhanced station access for persons with disabilities is important.”
