Rosedale Station - Platform Rehabilitation
January 2010 Update
The subway platforms at Rosedale Station were constructed in the early 1950’s. Years of exposure to the outside elements have deteriorated the concrete platforms. The rehabilitation work involves the systematic removal and replacement of the overhanging portion along the entire length of the platforms. Concrete replacement work to the northbound platform was completed in August 2009. Work is currently underway on the southbound platform edge and is expected to be completed by the end of 2010.
Work Hours
Work activities will occur on the platform and at track level.
To ensure the safest possible work conditions for the TTC’s work crew and TTC passengers, the work will be conducted (weather permitting) during overnight hours when the subway is not operating and electrical power to the tracks can be shut off. The work will start at approximately 2:00 a.m. and continue until the start of subway service in the morning, (Monday to Saturday, approximately 5:00 a.m. and Sundays, approximately 8:00 a.m.).
At the end of each work shift, the work area on the subway platform will be cleared and temporarily reinstated for safe use during normal subway operating hours.
Equipment
Equipment used to do this work includes drills, a concrete saw-cutter, concrete chipping-hammers, a sandblaster, and a compressor and generator to provide air and electrical power for the tools.
Noise
Efforts will be made to keep noise levels to a minimum during the work. A noise dampening enclosure/shield will be used during saw-cutting activities and where possible, electrically powered hand-held tools will be used.
TTC Contacts
During the night activity: John Chilelli of the TTC Track and Structure Department at PAGER (416) 393 7882 (pager I.D. # 1258). During regular business hours: Diego Sinagoga of the Marketing and Public Affairs Department at (416) 393-2197.
Storage Area
A small storage area at the south end of the subway platform will be used for staging purposes and storage of materials and equipment.
Work will be carried out in accordance with the requirements of the City Noise By-law. We regret any inconvenience that may be caused as a result of this work.
