Lawrence West Station - Elevator Construction - Update
Update: Expected elevator installation - end of 2012
During the course of the project, some design changes were necessary. The design changes have been completed and work for street to subway platform elevator service at Lawrence West subway station is now scheduled for completion by end of 2012.
Extent of Work:
Lawrence West Station will be retrofitted with one elevator complete with closed circuit television and intercom, sliding doors and a wide fare gate to accommodate people in wheelchairs.
- The elevator will be located in the paid area of the station. It will provide access between the bus platform at street level and the subway platform.
- A new staircase will be built inside the station to replace an exiting staircase that will be demolished to accommodate construction of the elevator shaft. The new staircase will be constructed around the elevator shaft and will provide access between street level, concourse level and subway platform level.
- The saw-tooth bus bay configuration on the bus platform will be slightly modified by extending the platform curb to the south further into the bus driveway.
Work areas will be separated from public areas with proper partitions and barriers.
Work Hours:
Work at the bus platform (street level) will be largely confined to the hours of 7:00 am. and 7:00 pm. on weekdays. Occasionally, the contractor may need to work later in the day or on weekends or overnight. The overnight work will be limited and required only when necessary to ensure the safety of TTC customers. When this happens, efforts will be made to keep noise levels to a minimum and limit the use of heavy equipment after 9:00 pm. as much as practical.
Transit Services:
This work will not have an affect on subway service. However, during the upgrades to the bus platform, bus service will be reassigned to alternate bus bays.
Access: Subway Stations:
While access into the station will remain open during all construction phases, areas of the bus platform and sections of the station will be either be partially or temporarily closed off. Work areas will be separated from public areas with proper partitions and barriers.
Contractor's Compound:
An office trailer will be placed to the station’s west side and will remain for the duration of the project. The contractor’s compound for material and equipment storage will be located in the vicinity of the work areas at the station.
We regret any inconvenience that may be caused as a result of this project.
