Construction Engineer
Plant Maintenance Department
Reporting to the Project Manager - Facilities, you will be responsible for providing various technical, analytical, administrative, financial, and field functions to ensure the effective administration of construction contracts and maintenance management systems. You will also be responsible for the development and implementation of the Division's maintenance management systems and for development and analysis of the Division's budget and work performance associated with the maintenance and construction of the equipment, fixtures, finishes and structural components of the TTC's surface and subway buildings. You will be accountable for implementing and managing projects / programs assigned to the Division from inception, planning, design, procurement and construction through commissioning to completion in accordance with the Commission’s budget, condition assessments, researching new repair methods, equipment, tools/materials, schedules and quality assurance requirements. Responsible for treating passengers and employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (within their area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service-provider and an employer.
Skills/Knowledge/Experience
You require a sound knowledge of construction management practices and principles, construction techniques and practices, including familiarity with construction laws, contract administration, contract inspection and claims management was well as knowledge of TTC operating environment. You must have a strong knowledge of, and experience in specialized construction scheduling methods and analysis. You must possess sound judgement; good organizational, administrative, interpersonal, verbal communication, and technical report writing skills as well as excellent analytical and problem solving skills. Must display tact and diplomacy to motivate and work with Contractors, Designers, End-Users, and fellow construction inspection staff. Highly developed computer skills in spreadsheets and scheduling programs and word processing programs are required. These abilities are normally gained through formal civil engineering training at a recognized university combined with several years of experience in the inspection and administration of small to medium construction projects in an urban environment. Formal training in other professional disciplines combined with appropriate work experience will also be considered. Registration as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario is mandatory. Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.
Annual Salary Range: $71,380.40 - $89,271.00 (Level 9)
