Reporting to the Superintendent - Escalators/Elevators, you will perform a variety of technical and quality control tasks associated with the analysis, diagnosis, correction/elimination of complex failures on the Commission’s inventory of escalators and elevators. This includes liaising with the section’s Forepersons, TSSA representatives and external suppliers in order to evaluate engineering drawings/specifications and technical details associated with the on-going maintenance, repair, overhaul, and rebuilding of the Commission’s inventory of escalators and elevators. You will analyze and diagnose complex and repeated failure events, enter and manage data, prepare work procedures, co-ordinate tests, and evaluate equipment performance, prepare reports and other correspondence including technical details, schedules and Hazard Identification Risk Analysis (HIRA). These activities may be carried out in the subway system, in a shop environment or in an engineering office environment. This is a 40 hour work week. Responsible for treating passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (if applicable and within their area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service-provider and an employer.

Skills/Knowledge/Experience

You require good knowledge of mechanical engineering design and costing principles, methods and procedures. Must demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of, and the ability to diagnose and correct failures in mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems and components utilized on escalators and elevators. Must possess sound judgement, good interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills, and well-developed analytical and problem-solving ability. Must be knowledgeable in the use of personal computers and relevant software applications (e.g. word processing, spreadsheets, presentation, computer drafting, database management, MAXIMO) related to the work. These abilities would normally be obtained through the completion of a 3 year community college diploma, or its equivalent, in the field of mechanical engineering technology, with specific knowledge in the areas of statics, dynamics, hydraulics, metallurgy, welding, pneumatics, design and drafting, theory of machines, gears and mechanical power transmission in combination with several years of directly related work experience. O.A.C.E.T.T. certification as an Engineering Technologist will be an asset. Knowledge in the areas of AC/DC motors, power electronics and generators, microprocessors, and electronic controls would be a definite asset. As the successful candidate, you will be required to register in the Escalating Devices Mechanic - In - Training program (EDM-T). You will also be required to obtain and maintain Subway/SRT Rulebook certification and successfully complete in-house training programs pertinent to workplace safety and other technical programs pertinent to the work. Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.

Annual Salary Range: $74,110.40 - $92,601.60 (Level 8)
