Senior Mechanical Engineer
Rail Cars and Shops Department
Reporting to the Superintendent - Maintenance Engineering, you will provide expertise for the mechanical engineering work associated with rail vehicles. This will involve: the investigation and diagnosis of complex mechanical engineering problems; the preparation and modification of technical specifications; conducting of comprehensive testing programs and compilation of reports on these projects. You will take professional responsibility for mechanical design work and Vehicle Incident Reports as required by the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO). You will also work with and co-ordinate the work performed by external agencies in an effort to solve complex technical problems that may arise. Responsible for treating passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (if applicable and within their area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service-provider and an employer.
Skills/Knowledge/Experience
You require a comprehensive knowledge of the mechanical engineering discipline as related to rail vehicle engineering combined with a strong knowledge of project management concepts and practices. You have the ability to carry out and/or co-ordinate projects and studies. Must have in-depth knowledge of vehicle testing procedures/programmes, rotary machines and all associated controls and quality assurance concepts. Must be knowledgeable in pneumatic and hydraulic systems and principles. Must possess sound judgement plus excellent design, technical, analytical, problem solving, interpersonal, verbal communication, project management and report writing skills. Strong design skills in Computer Aided 3-Dimensional Design such as Solid Works are mandatory. Requires a strong knowledge of the electro-mechanical equipment associated with urban transit vehicles as well as the various maintenance engineering support functions necessary for the maintenance of the Commission's rail car fleet. These abilities would normally be acquired by obtaining a University Degree in Mechanical Engineering, combined with minimum 6 years of directly related work experience. Registration with the Professional Engineers of Ontario is mandatory. Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.
Annual Salary Range: $82,264.00 - $102,848.20 (Level 10)
