Reporting to the Superintendent - Testing and Commissioning (Signals and Train Control), your primary role will be the planning and execution of testing and commissioning activities related to newly installed signalling and train control systems and alterations to existing signalling and train control systems. You will be accountable for providing evidence that confirms the operational, technical and safety principles demanded by the designated authorities have been validated. Key activities of this role will include creating test strategies, plans, procedures and reports. You will be also responsible for management and supervision of specialised TTC and contract resources engaged in signalling testing and commissioning, and for providing guidance and advice to staff at all levels regarding test activities. As the Senior Principles Tester, you will confirm readiness for passenger service of newly installed signalling systems and alterations to existing signalling systems. This work will take you into the field and requires flexible work hours as well as some travel. You will be responsible for treating passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (if applicable and within their area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service-provider and an employer.

Skills/Knowledge/Experience

You have extensive knowledge and experience in testing principles, practices and procedures gained over several years of working in the rail signalling industry. You are experienced in conventional signalling, train control engineering, commissioning principles and best practices. You will be familiar with construction methods, inspections and processes. Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations are distinct advantages. You must possess sound judgement; highly developed organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with excellent analytical and problem solving skills. You must be capable of managing teams that test all types of signalling equipment and systems and dealing with complex issues. Additionally you will have to prepare and interpret complex reports, recognize problems and evaluate solutions. This knowledge would be acquired through extensive experience over a number of years in the area of testing and commissioning of signalling and train control projects. Accreditation in accordance with the IRSE licensing scheme or the ability to become a licensed Engineer in Ontario is an asset. A valid driver's licence is required. Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.
