Vehicle Engineer (Electrical) - Streetcars
Maintenance Engineering - Rail Cars and Shops Department
Reporting to the Senior Electrical Engineer, you are responsible for performing a variety of electrical engineering duties related to the design, testing and development of the Toronto Transit Commission’s streetcars and associated electrical and electronic equipment. Your duties include diagnosing complex electrical problems and recommending engineered solutions; carrying out design work and related drafting, drawing revisions, Drawing Release Letters, Special Work Instruction Sheets; and preparing various technical correspondence and reports. You will take professional responsibility for electrical design work as required by the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO). You also work with and co-ordinate the work performed by external agencies in an effort to solve complex technical problems that may arise. Responsible for treating passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (if applicable and within their area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service-provider and an employer.
Skills/Knowledge/Experience
It is required that you possess sound knowledge of: electrical/electronic engineering principles, methods and practices with specific knowledge in the areas of drafting, 3D modelling, AC/DC motors and generators, microprocessors, and electronic controls, combined with a basic understanding of mechanics, hydraulics and pneumatics. You must have the ability to rapidly become familiar with the Commission's streetcar fleet and associated electrical and electronic equipment as well as the various functions carried out by the Rail Cars & Shops Department. You must be computer literate with a good working knowledge of personal computers and computerized applications related to the work such as CADD, spreadsheet software, database software etc. You possess sound judgement and well developed technical, analytical, problem solving, interpersonal, verbal communication and technical report writing skills. These skills and knowledge would normally be acquired by obtaining a University Degree in Electrical Engineering or the equivalent, combined with directly related electrical engineering experience. Registration as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario is required. Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.
Annual Salary Range: $71,380.40 - $89,271.00 (Level 9)
