Assistant Foreperson - Subway/SRT Track

To Meet Current and Future Requirements
Reporting to the Foreperson - Subway/SRT Track, you are responsible for supervising the work performed by hourly-rated employees in the Subway/SRT Track section that involves the rehabilitation, maintenance, construction and inspection of all Subway and SRT track-related work as well as assisting the Foreperson in the co-ordination, planning and completion of the work activities. You are also responsible for supervising the work performed by external contractors. Duties include: completing daily job briefings and work plans, reviewing them in detail with hourly-rated employees to ensure all aspects and hazards associated with the work are fully understood; conducting regular safety talks with hourly-rated employees; assisting the Foreperson with administrative duties such as completing the daily journal, timekeeping, signing purchase/stock requisitions, approving vacation requests, etc.; maintaining discipline and promoting harmony in the section; ensuring that employees are familiar with and comply with the policies and practices of the TTC with regard to rules, regulations and safe working practices, and are properly trained in all aspects of the work; investigating injuries, accidents, incidents or other problems which may arise, and initiating corrective action or making recommendations; ensuring that rules and regulations in the union agreement, Commission and Departmental policies, and government legislation (human rights, labour relations, Occupational Health and Safety Act, etc.) are satisfied and applied fairly and consistently; assisting in the completion of employee performance appraisals (EPAs) and counselling employees as required; and performing related duties as assigned. Responsible for treating passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (within their area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service-provider and an employer. You will substitute for the Foreperson Subway/SRT Track as required. This is a 40 hour work week, with various shifts and off-days.
Skills/Knowledge/Experience
You require knowledge of track and roadway inspection, construction, maintenance and repair standards, procedures and practices. You must have or acquire working knowledge of government legislation including the Occupational Health & Safety Act (Industrial and Construction) and other relevant regulations applicable to the work. You must possess a working knowledge of computers and computerized applications such as word processing, and databases. Knowledge of scheduling software is a strong asset. You must possess good mathematical, reading, writing and blueprint comprehension skills. Must have a valid Class “G” Ontario Driver’s licence. As the successful candidate you will be required to complete the Training Department’s program for truck driving operations and pass the test necessary to obtain a DZ licence. In addition, you must possess sound judgement; good organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. These skills and knowledge would normally be acquired through completion of Grade 12 (technical program) combined with directly related working experience in the areas of track maintenance, repair, replacement and construction. Supervisory experience in the transit/railroad area and/or related field would be an asset. Post secondary courses in engineering or a related field would be a definite asset. Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.
Annual Salary Range: $65,374.40 – $81,681.60 (Level 7)
