Transit City Update December 16, 2009
Mayor Ford has requested that the TTC develop a new transit plan consistent with his platform. Work on a new plan is underway. For more info on the current plan see the Metrolinx website at http://www.metrolinx.com 
Milestone Dates
- March 2007 - the Commission endorsed the Transit City Plan of 7 Light Rail Lines
- June 2007 – Premier announced MoveOntario 2020 Transit Plan for the GTHA including Transit City, SRT and committed $11.5 billion
- November 2007 – the Commission approved the staff recommendation to advance the four priority projects Sheppard East, Finch West, Eglinton Crosstown and SRT
- November 2008 – Metrolinx Big Move Regional Transportation Plan is approved and includes all Transit City lines and Sheppard East, Finch West, Eglinton Crosstown and SRT in the priority projects.
- April 1, 2009 – Province of Ontario announces funding for:
- Finch LRT $1.2 B,
- Eglinton Crosstown $4.6 B and
- SRT $1.4 B.
- May 15, 2009 – Province and Federal Government announce for
-Sheppard East. $950 M.
Total committed Funding $8.15 B
- May 14, 2009 – Province passes Bill 163 – The Metrolinx Act. Providing Metrolinx with responsibility to own and control “Regional” transit project.
- June 4 – letter from the Deputy Minister of Transportation directs that Sheppard East, Finch West, Eglinton Crosstown and SRT are regional transit projects.
