Combining TTC’s Station Improvement Programs

At Woodbine Station, Easier Access (new elevators and barrier free access) and Second Exit (new exits from each subway platform directly to street) initiatives are being combined into one construction project. This serves project construction efficiencies and will result in a shorter period of construction than if the work is done as separate projects.

Project Objectives & Benefits

Second Exit

Provides an additional means of exit from the subway platforms to the street to improve public egress.

Easier Access

Easier Access program provides barrier free access throughout the station and includes:

  • Elevator access from the street level to Eastbound and Westbound Platforms
  • Automatic (wider) doors at main entrance (street level)
  • Improved farelines which facilitate easier access for wheelchair, strollers, etc.

Construction Staging

Four stages of construction at street level are shown indicating the extent of underground TTC structure, new structures, area enclosed by hoarding and areas for rehabilitation.

Stage 1 - shows the construction of elevator E2 on the north side of Strathmore Blvd. east of Woodbine Ave. The elevator structure when completed will be entirely below street level and is shown in yellow. The hoarding limits are shown in light grey. When construction is complete, the area at street level will be fully restored.

Stage 2 - shows the construction of the 2nd  exit underground structure for the eastbound platform on the south-west corner of Woodbine Ave. and Strathmore Blvd. and partially extending into Strathmore Blvd. When completed, the structure will be entirely underground and is shown in yellow. The hoarding limits are shown in light grey. During construction, the sidewalk and part of Strathmore Blvd. will be closed. When construction is complete, the area will be fully restored.

Stage 3 - shows the construction of the 2nd exit building above ground and the underground 2nd exit structure to the westbound platform on the north-west corner of Woodbine Ave. and Strathmore Blvd., partially extending into Strathmore Blvd. The completed above ground building is shown in dark grey and the underground structure is shown in yellow. The hoarding limits are shown in light grey. During construction, the sidewalk and part of Strathmore Blvd. will be closed. When construction is complete, the area will be fully restored.

Stage 4 - shows the construction of elevator E1 and bus roadway within the subway station. The elevator structure below ground is shown in yellow and above ground in dark grey. Hoarding limits are shown in light grey. During construction, there will be periods when bus service is relocated to Strathmore Blvd.

Hoarding limits are shown in light grey. During construction, there will be periods when bus service is relocated to Strathmore Blvd.

Preliminary Property Impact

General street level plan showing the locations of permanent property requirements, temporary construction zones, temporary construction requirements and permanent underground requirements.

  • Permanent Property Requirements (shown in blue) are the north-west and south-west corners of Woodbine Ave. and Strathmore Blvd. and are required to construct the 2nd exit building and 2nd exit underground structures connecting to the eastbound and westbound subway platforms.
  • Temporary Construction Zones (shown in yellow) are areas on city property. At the completion of construction, these areas will be fully restored.
  • Temporary Construction Requirements (shown in orange) are areas on private property that are adjacent to the construction and will be temporarily required to accommodate the work. These areas also indicate the limit of construction hoarding. At the completion of construction, these areas will be fully restored.
  • Permanent Underground Requirements (shown in green) are  areas on private property (1000 Woodbine Ave.) with permanent below ground 2nd exit structure. At the completion of construction the ground level will be fully restored.
