Youngster accepts honour for late father
Posthumous merit award presented to TTC Operator's son.
June 2008
It was a touching moment. Chief General Manager Gary Webster leaned over to present a posthumous Award of Merit, for the late Mr. Claudio Infante, to Thomas Infante, the Queensway Operator’s nine-year-old son.
Mr. Infante earned the merit award for his role in rescuing a woman from a car accident last July. He never accepted the award due to a battle with cancer. Mr. Infante died on Feb. 27, 2008.
His son, Thomas, stepped in to accept the honour on May 7.
“I am very proud of what my daddy did,” he said. Thomas came to TTC Head Office with his mother, Helen Antonik, and many members of his family.
Last July, Mr. Infante was driving his bus when he witnessed a serious automobile accident. One of the cars had flipped over after hitting a hydro pole and was filling with smoke. Infante saw that the female driver was still trapped inside and ran to the car and freed her, and then called Transit Control for help.
