North Yonge early closure starts June
The northerly portion of the Yonge Subway will close earlier each evening for tunnel repairs.
June 2008
The northerly portion of the Yonge Subway will close earlier each evening for tunnel repairs starting on June 22.
The subway will close 90 minutes sooner (at 12:30 a.m.), six days a week, from Lawrence to Finch Stations from June 2008 to February 2009, and from Davisville to Sheppard-Yonge Stations from March 2009 to July 2010. Frequent shuttle buses will run in place of subway trains.
The early shutdown of the North Yonge line will enable maintenance crews to complete extensive state of good repair work in the tunnels by July 2010.
The subway will shutdown early every night, except Saturdays.
Here are the service changes that will take place:
- 36 Finch West, 39 Finch East, 53 Steeles East and 60 Steeles West bus routes will be extended from Finch Station to Lawrence Station to replace trains. Service on the 97 Yonge bus route will be increased, and the route will provide an accessible bus connection between Davisville, Lawrence and Finch Stations.
- Buses will operate every two to three minutes between Finch and Lawrence Stations.
- Finch, Sheppard-Yonge and York Mills Stations will remain open for connecting bus passengers.
- Automatic entrances at York Mills Station (South) and Sheppard-Yonge Station (Poyntz, West) will close after the last Yonge train.
- North York Centre Station will close after the last Yonge train.
- Trains on the Sheppard Subway will continue to run, but will serve the north platform at Sheppard-Yonge Station, instead of the south platform.
